Boudoir is the French word for a woman’s bedroom so it makes sense that a boudoir shoot is typically thought of as a sexy photoshoot. Women typically wear revealing outfits – lingerie, stockings, undergarments, jewelry, wigs, etc. It doesn’t always have to be like that though!

Personally, when I think of a boudoir shoot, I think of it as more of a self-confidence booster. While some women believe wearing sexy clothing helps them build confidence, it’s honestly more about what makes you feel good, and I have so many clients that tell me how amazing their partners make them feel.

I do get commonly asked to shoot couples for maternity boudoir sessions. It’s inspiring for me to see all of these significant others involved during this precious time in a woman’s life and I want to support you in any way that I can. I will photograph couples outside of maternity IF the fit is right.

What is Couple boudoir photography?

The difference between a traditional boudoir session and a couples session is that we do not do any solo portraits during a couples session, all of your images will be taken together. If you are hoping to get some solo shots, I recommend booking your traditional boudoir experience first and then coming back to see me for Round #2 with your partner.

How To Get The Most Out of a Couple’s Boudoir Session

My favorite piece of advice to give to my clients is to practice looking at themselves in a mirror. Hello Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg and your Calvins. Time to be a supermodel for Vogue. Just kidding. Practice doesn’t make perfect, but it does make it more comfortable to enact it in front of me.

During my pre-consultation, I assign my couples a homework assignment. It’s not going to give you nightmarish flash backs of school holding a pencil, but it will give you a chance to make some sexy, some cute, some crazy heart eyes to your partner. Chances are you’re going to end up in giggles, but to me, it’s always best to get those laughs out of the way instead of on your special day.

Couple Boudoir - Do you have to go nude?

Clients always ask me, what should we wear to our shoots? Definitely clothes, for sure, and I have some robes you can put on when you get here to avoid in line marks on your skin. Wardrobe is not that important for the way I shoot. We can make steamy out of a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

Please do not come with anything neon or busy patterned, that’s a firm no from me. Some other ideas are a button down shirt, a tie, a belt, sweatpants or boxer briefs.

There will be no nudity. I am not an explicit photographer. If you are asking me what my kink factor is on a scale of 1-10, I am probably a 3. If you are looking for someone to take explicit photos of you and your partner, I am respectfully, not your photographer.

Creating sexy is not really spicy when creating it on demand – maybe a couple boobs and booty grabs from your partner, but hot and heavy is not what you’re thinking about while holding various poses. I see many side eyes and mischievous smiles, while laughing between takes that they can’t believe they are doing this or asking each other if they wore deodorant or brushed their teeth. LOL.
